About Daphne's Library
Daphne’s Library is a street library based in Tulmur. It is named for our Scottish terrier, Daphne, who passed away unexpectedly in June 2026.
A street library is basically a community book exchange and it’s nice if you decide to take a book, to bring one to replace it. Of course, if you see something special, exchanges aren’t necessary: we love reading and want to share with our neighbours.
We have some good connections and can sometimes stock special signed copies of books, so make sure you sign up to our newsletter to get any hints on when the good stuff has arrived.
Help us out
The library is small and to keep it tidy, staff members will be curating the selection. Please do not overfill the library or leave books outside the door. If you are looking to make a big donation of books, please get in touch before leaving anything.

One last thing: we are a street library, yes and we function exactly as a street library does. However, we are not registered on the offical Street Library website and kindly ask you to keep us off any public listings.
Library staff
Daphne: Head Librarian
Daphne was the second dog to live at March Cottage. She moved in 18 months after the Archduke of the House crossed The Rainbow Bridge, and she immediately took over.
A rescued Scottish terrier, Daphne came to March after some changes in her first family’s lives. She was a senior gal who was overdue to be desexed after some issues breeding and so she moved in, had her operation, and settled into retirement.
Our home is named for me and Arch (M+Arch=March) and I promise to share that story with you soon. But for now, Daphne gets the library because she loved to snuggle on the couch with me while I read. She also liked to steal my books off the coffee table, tear the covers, and take them outside.
We put the plans for Daphne’s library in place while she was still with us, and planned to launch to our street with a party in her honour, and while we still may do that, our head librarian unexpectedly made her own trip over The Bridge in June 2026.
She will remain the Head Librarian in perpetuity, because she was only going to chew the books anyway.
M - Dogsbody
I swear my role was always going to be ‘Dogsbody’, but now I admit, it has a bit of a macabre twist. Still, the library is Daphne’s in name but mine to maintain.
So hi, I was Daph’s person. I was also Archie’s person. I am the M in March.
My role includes curating the selection (which means yes, I will remove racist, homophobic, ableist and otherwise harmful literature from the library), keeping the books tidy and stocked, and answering any messages you send about the library.
Childrens Librarians
We are very lucky to have many wonderful young people in our lives, some of whom have agreed to help us curate the selection of books for kids. These young people are very up on what’s hot in school right now, but if you have a young person who loves books, let us know what they’re into and we’ll see what we can source.
Literacy is very important to us as well, so in addition, we support a number of programs through Daphne’s Library. If you’d like to support them too, you can find a list here.
